Production
What materials are used in your pieces?
At Dear Keepsake, we take pride in our quality craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail.
18k Gold Vermeil
Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a premium method of gold plating. For a piece to be considered gold vermeil, it must have a thick layer of gold (at least 2.5 microns) over sterling silver. We use 14k gold, which is of a higher quality than many alternatives.
Sterling Silver
We use solid sterling silver (925), which is composed of 92.5% pure silver. Since pure silver is soft and can break easily, the remaining 7.5% is made up of alloy, enhancing durability while maintaining high quality for everyday use.
14k Solid Gold & 14k Solid White Gold
Our 14k gold is blended with a small amount of metal to ensure both durability and quality, similar to our sterling silver offerings.
White Cubic Zirconia
Cubic zirconia crystals closely resemble real diamonds but are man-made. We source high-quality cubic zirconias from reputable suppliers to ensure consistency and durability.
Is your jewellery waterproof?
While water doesn't have an immediate effect on any jewellery, continuous contact with water or other chemicals such as perfume, deodorant and household cleaning products can cause tarnishing. Proper jewellery care is recommended so you can ensure the longevity of your beloved pieces.
Any of our Solid Gold products are waterproof and tarnish proof if cared for correctly.
Does your jewellery contain nickel?
All our jewellery is nickel and lead free.
My earring isn't securing properly!
As our jewellery is meticulously crafted from sterling silver, a soft and malleable metal, there may be instances where the pin that goes through your ear shifts slightly during transport or while wearing them. This misalignment can prevent it from seamlessly clicking shut with the closure clasp. To resolve this, gently bend the pin upwards and adjust it until it aligns properly, allowing it to click closed. If the earring still feels loose even after clicking closed, continue adjusting until you achieve the desired tightness. If issues persist, kindly refrain from wearing the hoops immediately to prevent any potential loss, and reach out to us at hello@dearkeepsake.com.au for further assistance.
The item I want is out of stock?
If a piece you are wanting is out of stock, email us at hello@dearkeepsake.com.au to find out when it is expected to be restocked.
Care
What is the best way to care for my piece?
At Dear Keepsake, we take pride in our quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.
To ensure that your jewellery lasts as long as possible, we recommend following the care guidelines below:
Moisture: Exposure to water and moisture, such as showering, hand washing, and swimming, can cause jewellery to tarnish.
Exercise: Delicate jewellery can break during exercise or vigorous activities.
Cosmetics: Contact with perfume and cosmetic products can damage gold-plated and sterling silver jewellery.
Storage: We suggest not storing your jewellery in our gift boxes long-term. Keep your pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Cleaning: Only clean your jewellery using a soft polishing cloth.
Plating: Over time, the top layer of plated jewellery can wear away. Therefore, plated pieces may need to be re-plated every few years.
How do I clean my jewellery?
Sterling silver and solid gold pieces can be cleaned using a soft polishing cloth or, ideally, a jewellery cleansing solution.
Gold and rose gold plated pieces should be cleaned gently with a soft polishing cloth. Avoid using tissue paper or paper towels. Please note that, with all plated jewellery, the top layer may wear away over time, so re-plating may be necessary every few years.
What is tarnishing?
Tarnishing is a thin layer of corrosion on metals that occurs due to exposure to moisture, air, or chemical compounds. This results in a dark surface discolouration on your jewellery. Any jewellery that isn’t 100% pure gold or 100% pure silver can tarnish, including fine jewellery made from solid 14k or 18k gold or sterling silver. Even solid gold and silver can tarnish if not cared for properly.
How can I best prevent tarnishing?
Tarnishing is a natural process that can cause your jewellery to discolour or oxidise quickly. Here are some tips to help prevent this:
Avoid wearing fine jewellery in chlorinated pools.
If your jewellery contains natural gemstones, take extra care to avoid harsh cleaning products. Use only mild detergent or soap and water, and avoid polishing cloths directly on the stones.
When wearing your jewellery, minimise exposure to make-up, hairspray, perfumes, and lotions, especially sunscreen and chemical products.
Don’t wear your jewellery while sleeping, exercising, showering, or engaging in intense physical activities. Even the pH levels in your sweat can react with your jewellery, increasing the risk of accidental breakage

Can I swim or shower in my jewellery?
We do not recommend exposing your jewellery to water for several reasons. Water can erode and damage the plating of your piece (sterling silver or vermeil), and our jewellery is designed to be fine and delicate, which makes it susceptible to breakage if subjected to force.
Gold-plated jewellery can tarnish occasionally due to reactions with skin acidity, humidity, water, prolonged exposure to sunlight, perfume, or contact with cosmetics. Solid gold jewellery should withstand the elements; however, these fine pieces can still break if caught in your swimmers or hair during these activities. Please note that damage resulting from improper wear is not covered under our warranty.
